Morris and Sophie Smelkinson owned Smelkinson's Dairy at 1017 E. Lombard Street, next door to Attman's Deli on one side and Zell's Deli on the other side. It was across the street from Tulkoff's. Smelkinson's Dairy was burned down during the riots in 1968.
Morris and Sophie Smelkinson had seven children: Ralph, Benjamin, Isadore (Izzy), Isaac, Vivian and Rona. Ralph, the oldest, married Mildred and they had a daughter, Judy.
Aaron (Al) Smelkinson served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
