According to the minutes of the first meeting of the Hillel Club (first called the Hillel Civic Club), a group of Jewish men decided to create a Jewish civic organization. Various committees were created at the first meeting including a Constitution Committee, Entertainment Committee, and Publicity Committee. Moses Cohen, Senator Altfeld, and Dr. Robert Brotman were among the members.
Moses Cohen (late husband of the donor) was an attorney, Justice of the Peace, and President of Hapoel Hamizrachi-Zionist Organization.
