notes by JMM volunteer R. Siegel, Jan. 2014:
The organization met weekly in the early 1900s, monthly in mid-1900s to 2000, then quarterly. Now: infrequently and business is done by telephone. The organization met in members' homes and in synagogues, especially Beth Isaac in Pikesville from the late 1900s and early 2000s. Jerry's uncle, Albert Binstock, was a member from the 1960s to 2000s. Albert was the Chair of numerous committees. The organization impacted Albert's life in Baltimore by providing the "opportunity to interact with Jewish people - his pharmacy was located in a non-Jewish area (Parkville, MD)."
Jerry will send separately a photo (or photos) of his uncle, Albert Binstock. He confirmed this in a phone conversation with Robert Siegel on 2/5/14. He will also send Biographical info about his uncle and himself in a week from this call.
Anecdotes: "My uncle served as a Pharmacist and Medic in World War II - he was stationed in England. After the war, he returned to Baltimore and opened a pharmacy on Harford Road in Parkville with another pharmacist [that] he served with during the war. He worked his entire career there ... I worked there at the fountain [writes Jerry Rachanow] in the mid 1950s (my first job)."
