|Collection||Rabbi Dr. Maurice Fluegel Collection|
|Scope & Content||
The Maurice Fluegel Collection reflects Rev. Dr. Fluegel's interest in writing, discussing, and researching scholarly topics. The collection includes handwritten manuscripts of both published and unpublished writings, sermons, prayers, notes and newspaper articles. Rabbi Fluegel was proficient in several languages and the material is in English, Hebrew, and German.
Rabbi Fluegel appears to have created a code for his writings. Frequently he used a combination of Roman numerals, letters and numbers as shorthand describing about which Biblical passages he was writing. For example, V M 8.3 refers to the fifth book of Moses (Deuteronomy), chapter 8, verse 3. This notation appears in the titles of sermons, prayers, and other writings and has been used as an identifier in the finding aid in those cases where the actual title is illegible.
Due to the length of book and article titles, some have been abbreviated so that all necessary information could be included on the folders.
